TOPEKA, Kan. - The Northwest Missouri State University indoor track & field teams sent a few competitors to the Washburn Rust Buster Saturday in Topeka, Kan.
Northwest had a few student-athletes shine as the squads looked to get back into action after the holiday break.
Joel Dos Santos took top billing in the men's long jump. Dos Santos captured the long jump title with an NCAA Div. II provisional jump of 7.24m (23'9"). Dos Santos's lead ranks tied for the sixth-best indoor long jump in Northwest history.
Alyna Thibault recorded a personal best in the women's mile with a clocking of 5:08.76. It is the eighth-best time in program history in the indoor mile. Her previous career mark of 5:12.91 also came at the Washburn Indoor Facility on Feb. 27, 2021. Thibault placed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:21.25.
Caroline Cunningham placed second in the women's 800 meter race. Cunningham clocked in at 2:19.07. Cunningham also placed sixth in the women's mile with a time of 5:10.42.Â
R.J. Williams placed fourth in the men's 800 meter race with a time 1:57.42.
Federico Crisci took fifth in the 800 with a clocking of 1:57.69.
Northwest will have both squads in full action next week at the Northwest Open set for Saturday in Hughes Fieldhouse.
