'CATS BACK IN ACTION THIS WEEK AT FHSU, HOME VS UNK
The No. 2-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball team (13-1 overall, 6-0 MIAA) looks to return to action this week with a Wednesday road trip to Fort Hays State (11-2 overall, 6-2 MIAA) and a home game Saturday against Nebraska-Kearney (5-9 overall, 1-7 MIAA).
   Wednesday's game will tip at 7:30 p.m. at Gross Coliseum in Hays, Kan., while Saturday's action will get underway at 3:30 p.m. in Bearcat Arena.
PAUSE IN THE ACTION
Northwest saw its season come to a pause last week with the postponement of two road games.
   Northwest will make up its game with Washburn on Jan. 17 in Topeka, Kan.
   Northwest will make up its game with Emporia State on Feb. 8 in Emporia, Kan.
NORTHWEST PUTS 21-GAME ROAD WIN STREAK ON LINE
Northwest has won 21 consecutive road games, which is the longest active streak among NCAA Div. II schools.
   The 21-game road win streak ranks as the second-longest among all NCAA divisions.
   The Bearcats have also won their last 20 consecutive MIAA road games.
   Northwest has won 37 of its last 38 road games. Northwest's last road loss came on Dec. 7, 2019 in a 72-60 decision at Central Missouri.
   Northwest was 12-0 on the road in 2020-21. The Bearcats have won at least eight road games in each of the last five seasons.

Northwest has won 22 consecutive MIAA contests entering Wednesday's game with the Tigers. Northwest has won 67 of its last 69 MIAA regular season games.
   Northwest has had four MIAA winning streaks of 20 or more games since the 2015-16 season.
   The Bearcats set the league record with 28 straight MIAA wins in a row from Jan. 16, 2016 through Feb. 18, 2017.

HUDGINS CLAIMS 3RD MIAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONOR THIS SEASON
For the third time this season and 10th time in his career,
Trevor Hudgins has been named the MIAA's men's basketball athlete of the week.
   Hudgins tied his own single-game school record with 11 made three-pointers as he tallied 38 points in a non-conference win over Saint Mary (Kan.). Hudgins went 13-of-19 from the field, including 11-of-17 from three-point land, in securing his fourth 30-point scoring game of the season. Hudgins handed out two assists, grabbed two rebounds and tallied two steals as he played 35 minutes against the Spires.
3-POINT GAME RECORD GOES DOWN AGAIN
For the third time this season the Bearcat single-game record for three-pointers has been either matched or broken.
Trevor Hudgins matched his own school record with 11 made three-pointers against Saint Mary on Dec. 29.
   Hudgins buried 11 three-pointers against Rogers State to set the mark that had been tied by

   Hudgins would rank No. 1 on Northwest's all-time free throw percentage chart - as he has sank 408 of 465 career free throws (87.7%). Conner Crooker (2013-16) holds the career free throw shooting percentage mark at 86.1% (223-of-259).
   It would also be the highest percentage in MIAA history. Central Missouri's Michael Hicks holds the MIAA career mark for highest free throw percentage at 87.1% (323-of-371) set from 2004-06.
   As a freshman, Hudgins tied the MIAA record with 36 consecutive free throws made. He is in the midst of a streak of 35 straight made free throws entering Wednesday's game at Fort Hays State.

Ben McCollum secured his 300th coaching victory in Northwest's 80-54 win over West Texas A&M in the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship game.
   In his 13th season at the helm of the Bearcat program, McCollum has led Northwest to a record of 313-79.
   His winning percentage of .798 ranks No. 3 among NCAA Division II coaches and No. 6 among all NCAA Division coaches (minimum of 10 years experience).

In its last game before the holiday break, Northwest shot a single-game school record 72.9% from the field in a 101-63 thrashing of Missouri Western.
   The Bearcats drained 35-of-48 field goals, including 20-of-25 (80%) in the second half.
   The previous school record for highest field goal percentage in a game came against Lindenwoon on Feb. 4, 2017, when the Bearcats shot 67.9% from the floor in a 89-64 victory in St. Charles, Mo.

HUDGINS CAPTURES 2ND MIAA POW HONORS

Trevor Hudgins has been named the MIAA's men's basketball athlete of the week.
   It is the second time this season, and ninth time in his career, Hudgins has been honored with the MIAA's top weekly honor.
   Hudgins averaged 33.0 points per game and shot 57.1% from the field, including 58.6% from three-point land in leading Northwest to a 2-0 start to MIAA play.
   Hudgins tallied a career-high 40 points and set the Northwest single-game three-point record by making 11 threes against the Hillcats. Hudgins played nearly 33 minutes against the Hillcats on Saturday and was 13-of-21 from the floor. He was 11-of-18 from three-point range. Hudgins also handed out five assists vs. Rogers State.
   On Thursday night, Hudgins scored a game-high 26 points on 7-of-14 shooting vs. Northeastern State. Hudgins made 6-of-11 three-pointers vs. NSU.
   Over the two games, Hudgins also sank all nine of his free throw attempts.

   Northwest also set its team single-game record for three-pointers attempted (41) against Briar Cliff. The previous mark of 39 was set against Emporia State on Jan. 9, 2019.
   The 22 made threes is the second-best performance this year by a Division II team. Southeastern Oklahoma State made 23 three-pointers vs. Arlington Baptist on Nov. 17.
BEARCATS ALWAYS SEEM TO BOUNCE BACK
Northwest dropped its first game of the season to Sioux Falls, 83-77, but promptly bounced back and scored a 75-52 win over Arkansas-Monticello at the Central Region Challenge held at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
   Northwest has played 204 games since last losing back to back games. Northwest's last back-to-back losses came Dec. 18/Dec. 20 2015 at Lincoln and at Lindenwood.
RARE NON-CONF REGULAR SEASON LOSS
Northwest suffered its first non-conference regular season loss for the first time in nearly six years in Sioux Falls pulled off the 83-77 victory in Kansas City.
   Prior to the loss to the Cougars, Northwest's last regular season non-conference loss came at No. 1-ranked Augustana on Nov. 19, 2015.

41 FREE THROW ATTEMPTS
Northwest attempted 41 free throws in its 64-59 win over No. 21-ranked Seattle Pacific. It was the most free throws attempted since also getting 41 free throw tries against Missouri Southern on March 1, 2007.

COMING FROM BEHIND
Northwest had to climb out of a pair of deficits to defeat both No. 15 Northern State and No. 21 Seattle Pacific at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.
   Northern State had an eight-point first-half lead against Northwest before the Bearcats charged back. Northwest trailed by four at the half, 30-26, but stormed back with a 42-25 scoring advantage in the final 20 minutes.
   Seattle Pacific held a seven-point lead in the first half against Northwest at 12-5. Northwest used a 14-0 run to take the look and never trailed again.
SMALL COLLEGE BASKETBALL ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

Trevor Hudgins and
Wes Dreamer named to the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic All-Tournament team.
   Hudgins posted back-to-back 20-point scoring games with 22 against Northern State and 27 vs. Seattle Pacific.
