OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma - The No. 5-seeded Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team collected a 4-1 victory over No. 4-seeded Harding University to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Central Region Tournament.
The Bearcats will take on No. 1 seed Central Oklahoma Saturday at 9 a.m.
Northwest (12-7 overall) led off the dual by taking the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Freshmen
Tessa Kwakernaak and
Kaylyn Chleborad combined to post a 7-5 win over Harding's Allison Carpenter and Hana Folse at No. 2 doubles.
Two more Bearcat freshmen in
Vera Brusa and
Angela per Moreno tallied a victory at No. 3 doubles over Harding's Emily Carpenter and Allison Jenkins.
Northwest recorded three singles wins to close out the dual and advance to the regional semifinals.
Freshman
Vera Alenicheva closed out Emily Carpenter at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Alenicheva improved to 15-2 on the season at No. 1 singles.
Brusa knocked off Harding's Ashley Nilsson at No. 5 singles to push the Bearcats to the brink of victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Sophomore
Julia Aliseda cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 dusting of Harding's Romane Britt at No. 2 singles to clinch the dual win. It marked the 15th singles win over the year for Aliseda.
