ALLENDALE, Michigan - The Northwest Missouri State track and field teams wrapped up the final competition this season at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Hiba Mahgoub headlined the day for the Bearcats, winning the 200m dash to earn 10 points for the Northwest women. Mahgoub broke her own school record in the event, running in :23.25 and becoming the first Northwest women's outdoor track and field athlete crowned a national champion. The last Bearcat women's national champion was Jenny Simmons in the indoor pole vault in 2003. Mahgoub also picked up six points with her third place finish in the 400m dash, running :54:02.
Mahgoub's 200m time of :23.25 is the
13th-fastest time ever recorded at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. It is the
16th-fastest time ever recorded by a Division II women's runner in a 200m race.Â
Quincy McSweeney also scored for the Bearcat women, tallying three points for a sixth-place effort in the 800m run. McSweeney broke her own school record in the event, running in 2:08.76.Â
The men's 4x400m relay earned four points and were also named All-Americans as the team of
Caelon Harkey,
Federico Crisci,
Prince Griffin, and
Tyrell Maddox finished in fifth place, running a season-best time of 3:10.13.Â
Dakota Schmidt also finished 12th in the javelin, finishing the season as a second team All-American.
