Bearcats qualify three events for Saturday finals at NCAA Championships

ALLENDALE, Michigan - Several Bearcat track athletes were back in action at day two of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Three events qualified for final sections to be held on Saturday while Reece Smith posted a top five finish to score points as well. 

Smith ran 8:56.32 in the 3,000m steeplechase to capture fifth place in the event and earn four points for the Northwest men's squad. The Bearcat men's 4x400m relay team of Caelone Harkey, Federico Crisci, Prince Griffin, and Tyrell Maddox posted the fastest qualifying time in the event, running 3:12.67 in prelims. The final section of the men's 4x400m relay will be run on Saturday at 3 p.m.

On the women's side, Hiba Mahgoub broke her own school record in the 200m, running :23.55 in her prelim section to qualify third for finals. The final section of the women's 200m will be run at 6:25 p.m. on Saturday. Quincy McSweeney also qualified for the 800m final after running 2:10.06 to qualify third. Bailey Blake finished 15th in the event in 2:13.45. Finals for the women's 800m run will take place at 5:45 p.m. tomorrow. 

The women's 4x400m relay team of Tiffany Hughey, McSweeney, Randi Overkamp, and Mahgoub finished 11th in 3:47.28 to round out the day.
