Bearcats defeat Bisons, move to MIAA men's tennis title match

EDMOND, Oklahoma - The No. 23-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team advanced to the MIAA-GAC Tournament title match with a 4-0 win over Harding University.

The Bearcats made quick work of the Bisons by taking the doubles point and then tallied three consecutive singles wins to close out the dual victory.

Northwest's No. 1 doubles pairing of Andrea Zamurri and Franco Oliva recorded a 7-5 win over Harding's Alvaro de Lorenzo and Morgan Salvan. It was Zamurri and Oliva's 11tgh doubles victory of the spring season.

Northwest's No. 3 doubles duo of Agustin Velasco and Fabien Calloud posted a 6-4 victory over Harding's Luis Tirado and Diego Pierola. The Velasco and Calloud pairing moved to 12-2 on the year.

The Bearcats top-seeded and No. 6-ranked Zamurri wasted little time in singles as he polished off Harding's Arthur Bellan, 6-2, 6-1. Zamurri is a perfect 16-0 in singles action this spring.

At No. 2 singles, Calloud blew past Harding's Dani Ortiz, 6-3, 6-2. Calloud earned his 13th singles win this season.

Northwest clinched the dual at No. 6 singles behind a straight-sets win from Velasco. Velasco took it to Harding's Bryce Walker, 6-2, 6-3, as he moved to 9-1 this spring at No. 6 singles.

The Bearcats will match up against the Washburn Ichabods Sunday at 9 a.m. in the MIAA-GAC Tournament championship match.
