The Northwest Missouri State softball team dropped two conference games to the Central Missouri Jennies. The Bearcats dropped to 9-11 on the season and 3-5 in MIAA play.
The Bearcats opened up a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game one off an Olivia Duagherty 2-run home run. The lead would not last long as Central Missouri came storming back, scoring three runs of their own in the top of the second. The Jennies extended their lead with home runs in the fifth and seventh innings to score the 5-2 win.
Seven Bearcats tallied hits while Daugherty and
Jacee Winn scored the two Bearcat runs.
Breck Dickey took the loss in the circle and dropped to 3-6 on the season.
After trading zeros in the first two innings of game two, the Jennies exploded for four runs on four hits in a two-out rally. The Bearcats answered in the bottom of the fourth as
Avery Anderson scored on a Daugherty single and
Hannah Blackford scored on a
Kaitlyn Weis single. The Jennies took back a demanding lead with six runs in the sixth inning. Weis hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Jennies added three more insurance runs in the seventh and made quick work of the Bearcats to end the day with a 13-3 lead.Â
Weis and Daugherty were both 2-for-3 at the plate while Weis had two RBI and Daugherty had one.Â
The Bearcats stay at home this weekend as they host Central Oklahoma and Newman in doubleheaders Friday and Saturday. First pitch against UCO on Friday is at 2 p.m.
