EDMOND, Oklahoma - The Northwest Missouri State University overcame an early deficit to score a 4-1 victory over the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers in the MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament quarterfinals.
Northwest improves to 11-6 on the season, while UNK completes its year with a record of 6-13 overall.
UNK gained an early advantage by taking victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles for a 1-0 dual lead. The No. 1 doubles match went to a tiebreaker with UNK's Melisa Becerra and Claire Neil topping Northwest's
Vera Alenicheva and
Julia Aliseda, 7-6 (6-3).
Northwest regrouped and was able to secure four singles wins to lock up the dual victory and advance to the semifinals for a matchup with No. 17-ranked Washburn.
Alenicheva tallied a 6-4, 6-0 win over Becerra at No. 1 singles.

Sofia Pignataro topped Neil in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.

Victoria Caster cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles over UNK's Pranathi Gannavaram.
The clinching match came at No. 2 singles when Aliseda was able to prevail in a third set over UNK's Jazmin Zamorano. Aliseda won the first set, 6-3. However, Zamorano battled back with a 7-5 win in the second. Aliseda took complete control in third with a 6-0 victory.
