WARRENSBURG, Missouri - The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team snapped No. 3-ranked Central Missouri's 24-game win streak with a 4-2 victory Sunday at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
Northwest (13-20 overall, 11-16 MIAA) snapped its own eight-game losing skid behind the pitching of
Alex Slocum and
Blaine Hanf. Slocum made his 18th appearance of the season but his first start and went seven innings. Hanf polished off the win with a two-inning save. Central Missouri fell to 29-5 and 25-2 in league play.
Slocum allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) and struck out two batters. Hanf allowed a hit and a walk as he earned his first collegiate save. The Bearcat pitchers also combined to snap Erik Webb's 29-game hitting streak.
Northwest's offense got a run in the second on a fielder's choice by
Tyler Peters that scored
Ryan Koski.
The Bearcats added three more runs in the sixth.
Drew Mackie delivered an RBI single to first base that scored
Brett Holden. Koski reached on a fielder's choice that plated
Peter Carlson. Peters came through with an RBI double to center to score Koski to give Northwest a 4-0 lead.
UCM scored an unearned run in the sixth and an earned run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.
Peters went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Koski scored two runs.Â
Northwest will return home for a three-game series this weekend against Missouri Southern.
