The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat volleyball team is set to match up against the Washburn Ichabods in a 1 p.m. Friday quarterfinal at the 2021 MIAA Spring Volleyball Tournament.
The MIAA Spring Volleyball Tournament will be hosted by Washburn University Friday and Saturday (April 16-17) at Lee Arena.
Northwest and Washburn split the spring series with each squad winning in their respective home floors. Northwest scored a 3-0 win over Washburn in Maryville on Feb. 24. Washburn then posted a 3-0 win over Northwest in Topeka, Kansas, on March 20.
Eleven teams will be competing in a single-elimination format beginning with two matches at 11 a.m. CT on Friday. The bracket and the pairings, can be found on the
Tournament Central page.
Northwest enters the tournament riding a six-match win streak with all six wins coming via three-game sweeps. The Bearcats knocked off then-No. 10-ranked Nebraska-Kearney this past Saturday, 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-17). It was Northwest's first win over UNK since Oct. 27, 1990.
"The confidence that has been built over the past three weeks is super high going into this weekend's conference tournament," Northwest head coach
Amy Woerth said.
The tournament will feature three teams ranked in the AVCA Top 25 with Nebraska-Kearney at No. 11, Washburn at No. 14 and Northwest at No. 15.
The semifinals are scheduled to take place beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday with the championship set for 4 p.m.
All matches will be streamed live for free on
The MIAA Network.
