TOPEKA, Kansas - The Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team recorded a 4-2 dual win over the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders Sunday in non-conference action.
The Bearcats (8-4 overall) won their second straight match and for the sixth time in seven tries.
Northwest secured the doubles point for the sixth time this season with triumphs at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The Bearcat No. 2 doubles pairing of
Vera Alenicheva and
Julia Aliseda knocked off SAU's Serena Gill and Lena Milosevic, 6-4. The No. 3 duo of
Tessa Kwakernaak and
Kaylyn Chleborad dusted off SAU's Finley Blair and Haylie Hunger, 6-2.Â
The Alenicheva and Aliseda pairing are a perfect 6-0 this spring at No. 2 doubles.
Alenicheva suffered her first loss of the spring to SAU's Lena Milosevic, 7-5, 6-3. Alenicheva is 10-1 this spring.
But the Bearcat lineup took care of its top seed by winning singles matches at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to secure the dual win.
Julia Aliseda picked up a three-set win at No. 3 singles over SAU's SArah Roy. Aliseda won by scores of 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. Aliseda is 9-0 at No. 3 singles this spring.
Sofia Pignataro blistered SAU's Hunger at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.Â
Victoria Caster closed out the victory with a 6-0, 6-0 shellacking of SAU's Blair. Caster improved to 6-0 at No. 6 singles this spring.
The Bearcat women will have a busy week with matches at Nebraska-Kearney (Friday, 3 p.m.), at Fort Hays State (Saturday, 1 p.m.) and at Augustana (Sunday, 2 p.m.).
