MARYVILLE, Missouri - The No. 18-ranked Northwest Missouri State volleyball team shocked No. 10-ranked Nebraska-Kearney after sweeping the Lopers 3-0 in Bearcat Arena on Saturday afternoon. This is Northwest's fourth win over UNK and the Bearcats had not won a match over the Lopers since their 3-2 win on October 27, 1990 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
The Bearcats (12-2, 6-2 MIAA North) have now won six matches in a row with their 25-17, 26-24, 25-17 sweep of the Lopers.
The Northwest offense featured many weapons, with
Morgan Lewis (14 kills),
Olivia Dir (12), and
Kelsey Havel (10) all having double-digit kill performances.
Alyssa Rezac dished out 44 assists while
Hannah Koechl tallied 26 digs. Lewis and
Jaden Ferguson also each recorded five blocks in the victory.
Northwest hit .218 in the match while holding the Lopers to just .124 on the afternoon on 31 kills and 15 errors.
The Bearcats finish the regular season with a 12-2 overall record and 6-2 in the MIAA North division. The MIAA Tournament will be held April 16 & 17 in Topeka, Kansas.
