TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma - The Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team took its win streak to three in a row with a 4-3 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
The Bearcats (5-3 overall) used a strong singles performance to pull out the dual victory on neutral courts.Â
The Savage Storm took a 1-0 lead by winning a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles. Southeastern's Vanessa Cozamanis and Elizaveta Tregubova posted a 7-6 win over Northwest's
Tessa Kwakernaak and
Kaylyn Chleborad.
With their backs against the wall, the Bearcats roared back in singles play. The winning ways began at No. 1 singles when
Vera Alenicheva moved to 8-0 with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Zulay Castaneda.
Julia Aliseda remained unblemished at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 dusting of Elizaveta Tregubova. Aliseda has won all six of her matches she has contested at No. 3 singles this spring.
Victoria Caster blew past Rhythm Aswal at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Caster is 3-0 at No. 6 singles.
But the match boiled down to a three-set match at No. 5 singles. Northwest's
Angela per Moreno prevailed over Vanessa Cozamanis, 7-5, 6-3, 6-3.Â
The Bearcat women will remain in Tahlequah for a 3 p.m. match against Northeastern State. Northwest will head to Edmond, Oklahoma, Saturday for a dual vs. Central Oklahoma at 1 p.m.
