Bearcat soccer registers 5-4 win over Jennies

WARRENSBURG, Missouri - The Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team registered a 5-4 victory over the Central Missouri Jennies Friday in a non-conference matchup between a pair of MIAA foes.

Northwest came out strong and built a 2-0 lead on goals from Kaitlyn Case and Sophie Cissell.

"The game was fast faced and UCM was very organized," head coach Marc Gordon said. "We managed to absorb their pressure and ended up going 1-0 on a goal from Kaitlyn Case, then we subbed Sophie Cissell in and she was on the field 30 second and scored our second goal."

Gordon said UCM countered and equalized the match at 2-2 heading to halftime.

"UCM came out on their front foot in the first five minutes of the second half and scored to go up 3-2," Gordon said. "Then they added their fourth to go up two goals."

The Bearcats turned to Cissell again with out 21 minutes remaining to trim the UCM lead to 4-3.

Northwest knotted the match at 4-4 on a goal from Clara Kidder - it was Kidder's first match in three years and eight months.

"Madi McKeever played a ball and Case laid it off to Kidder, who shot outside the 18 and beat the goalkeeper on the far corner to tie it up," Gordon said.

Cissell popped in the game-winning goal after an initial save by the UCM keeper. The Jennies keeper dropped it in front of Cissell, who put it into the back of the net with six and a half minutes to play.

Northwest would hang on for the 5-4 road victory.

Each squad took 13 shots in the contest and each team tallied five corner kicks.
