No. 9 Hillcats complete sweep of Bearcats

The No. 9-ranked Rogers State University Hillcats softball team scored 6-0 and 5-2 wins over the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats in MIAA doubleheader action.

Rogers State picked up a run in the bottom of the first off a home run before trading zeros back and forth through the next four innings. In the sixth inning, the Hillcats scored five runs on four hits.

Hannah Blackford and Olivia Daugherty each had a hit while Breck Dickey took the loss in the circle and dropped to 2-5 on the season.

Rogers State opened the second game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first before Northwest added a run of their own in the top of the second with an Abby Nolte solo home run.  The Hillcats rallied back with two runs in the fourth on two hits. Ady Watts led off the top of the fifth with a triple to right field before scoring on a run on a Rogers State error, bringing the Bearcats within 4-2 with two innings of play left. But Rogers State would seal the deal with another run in the sixth and holding the Bearcats scoreless for the rest of the game.

Watts and Olivia Daugherty were both 2-for-3 at the plate with Watts scoring one run. Abby Nolte was also 1-for-3 with a run scored and the lone RBI for the Bearcats. Raven Defrain took the loss in the circle and moved to 1-2 on the season.
