MARYVILLE, Missouri – The Northwest Missouri State University women's basketball team drilled a blizzard of three-pointers in securing a 63-49 triumph over the visiting Missouri Western Griffons.
Northwest completed a season-sweep of Missouri Western for the first time since the 2010-11 season and improved to 6-9 on the season. Missouri Western dropped to 3-10 overall.
Northwest drained a season-high 17 three-pointers and attempted a program single-game best 41 triples in the victory. Northwest had six different players make at least two three-pointers.
The Bearcats stormed back in the second quarter with a 20-10 scoring advantage to take a 33-24 lead at the break. Missouri Western held a 14-13 lead after the first quarter.
Both teams struggled to find hoops in the third quarter, but Northwest still outscored Missouri Western, 8-5.
The Bearcats blew it open in the fourth quarter and took a 61-38 lead with 4:17 to play. At the mid-point of the fourth quarter, Northwest made eight of nine three-point shots.
Mallory McConkey led the way with her second career double-double. McConkey tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Jaelyn Haggard sank five three-pointers to reach 15 points.
Jillian Fleming also found double-figure scoring with 10 points.
Molly Hartnett scored six points, dished out a team-best six assists and grabbed four rebounds.
Northwest's next game is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday against the Pittsburg State Gorillas in Bearcat Arena.
