The Northwest Missouri State softball team picked up its first win of the 2021 season with a 6-3 victory over Southwest Baptist.
After the defense allowed a SBU run in the top of the first inning,
Hannah Blackford tied the game up at one run with a homerun in the bottom of the first. After holding the visiting team in the second, Northwest's offense unleashed and scored four runs from
Madison Friest,
Avery Anderson,
Jacee Winn, and
Raven Defrain.
Olivia Daugherty doubled to left field in the inning to earn three RBI.
Allowing single-run innings in both the third and fourth innings, the Bearcats locked down on defense and produced another run from Anderson off a Daugherty triple to left field. Both Bearcats traded zeros in the fifth and sixth innings before Northwest executed a fielder's choice at second base and
Breck Dickey struck out the final two batters.
Northwest scored six runs on seven hits from six different players in the game, with Daugherty leading the way with two hits and four RBI. Anderson scored two runs while Blackford scored a run, recorded a hit and two RBI. Dickey picked up her first win of 2021 in the circle with an ERA of 2.00.Â
