BEARCATS HIT THE ROAD TO MEET EMPORIA STATE, WASHBURN
The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team makes its final road trip of the regular season when it travels to Emporia State and Washburn this week. The Bearcats meet the Hornets on Thursday before heading to Topeka to play the Ichabods on Saturday.
Â
While the Bearcats have not met Washburn yet this season, they did play a close game with Emporia State in January. The Bearcats dropped the contest 58-51, but lead most of the game before
Kylie Coleman went out with an injury in the second half, changing momentum to favor the Hornets.
ABOUT THE HORNETS (14-4)
The Hornets are led by arguably one of the top players in the MIAA, sophomore guard Tre'Zure Jobe. Jobe is a versatile player for Emporia State, averaging 20.6 point per game while shooting 43 percent from the field and also dishing out 69 assists and recording 54 steals on the season. Karsen Schultz and Ehlaina Hartment both average 13.1 ppg while Fredricka Sheats (12.6 ppg) and Kali Martin (12.3 ppg) round out the Hornets' deep lineup. Sheats is pulling down 7.9 rebounds per game while Schultz has been a force on the boards as well with 6.0 rpg.
Â
LAST TIME VS. EMPORIA STATE
In a Jan. 19 matchup with Emporia State, the Bearcats led most of the way through the game until late in the fourth quarter, when the Hornets outscored Northwest 18-4 in the period.
Kylie Coleman went down with an injury late in the game that seemed to help switch momentum from Northwest to Emporia State as the Hornets left Bearcat Arena with a 58-51 win.
Jaelyn Haggard led the 'Cats with 14 points while
Jayna Green pulled down 10 rebounds.
Â
ABOUT THE ICHABODS
Washburn's starting lineup might feature new faces that are different from the last few years, but the Ichabods are still finding ways to win. One returner is senior Hunter Bentley. Bentley is doing a little bit of everything, scoring 16.6 ppg and pulling down 6.5 rpg while also dishing out 45 assists and swiping 24 steals. She also ranks 12th in NCAA Division II free-throw percentage (91.0%) going 71-for-78 from the charity stripe. Junior transfer Nuria Barrientos is helping the Ichabod cause by scoring 11.2 ppg to go along with 8.4 rpg, 45 assists, and 33 steals of her own.
