JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The No. 2-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball team blitzed the Lincoln University Blue Tigers at Jason Gymnasium, 84-54.
Northwest is 9-1 on the season and 3-0 in MIAA play. Lincoln is 1-7 overall and 0-3 in league action. Northwest improved its win streak to seven in a row. The victory also extended Northwest's road winning streak to 20 in a row.
Bearcat sophomore
Daniel Abreu tallied a career-high 26 points to lead five Northwest players in double-figure scoring.
Isaiah Jackson also set a career-high with 10 points.
Northwest shot 51.8% from the field (29-of-56). Northwest sank 13 three-pointers in the triumph. Lincoln shot 35.2% from the floor (19-of-54).
Lincoln scored the game's first eight points two minutes into the contest by making its first three shots from the field. But the Bearcats settled in and took their first lead of the game at 16-14 on a
Luke Waters bucket with 12:39 left in the half.
Daniel Abreu tallied a team-best 13 first-half points and he keyed a 13-1 spurt that put the Bearcats on top 25-15.
The Blue Tigers closed to within six at 25-19 before the Bearcats shut them down on the offensive end of the floor. Northwest closed the half on a 24-5 run. Lincoln managed only one made field goal in the final eight minutes of first-half action. Northwest held a 49-24 lead at the break.
Northwest shot 55.2% (16-of-29) from the field in the first half. The Bearcats also drained 56.5% of its three-point shots in the first half (9-of-16). Lincoln made its first two three-point shots and then misfired on its final eight three-pointers in the first 20 minutes.
The Bearcat blitz continued into the second half as Northwest extended its lead to 72-33 on a
Trevor Hudgins three-pointer with 10:40 to go in the game. Lincoln cut into the Bearcat lead with a 20-6 run after Hudgins exited, before Northwest closed out the 30-point win.
Northwest will be back in action Monday at 7:30 p.m. against the University of Central Missouri Mules in Warrensburg, Mo.
