No. 10 Bearcat volleyball knocks off Bronchos in five in Edmond

EDMOND, Okla. - The No. 10-ranked Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team continues its surge through the MIAA with another road triumph Saturday in five sets at Central Oklahoma.

Northwest scored only its fourth win over vs. UCO and the first triumph against the Bronchos since Sept. 9, 2011.

Northwest won by set scores of 18-25, 25-13, 20-25, 28-26 and 15-10.

The fourth set provided plenty of fireworks as it was tied 20 times and included 10 lead changes. Rachel Sturdevant pounded down seven kills, while Hannah Koechl tallied 11 digs in the fourth set alone. The Bearcats had to overcome a pair of match points at 24-22 just to keep the contest going. UCO added a third set point at 26-25, but Payton Kirchhoefer delivered a kill to knot the set at 26-26. Kelsey Havel came through with back to back kills to give Northwest the 28-26 victory and force a fifth and deciding set.

Northwest took full advantage of the fifth set to open up a 5-0 lead over the home Bronchos. But UCO failed to fade away and leveled the set at 7-7. Following a 9-9 tie, Northwest took control and closed the match on a 6-1 run to culminate the five-set victory. Jaden Ferguson powered the Bearcat offense in the fifth with five kills on nine swings.
