Box Score (PDF)

The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team picked up its first win of 2021 with a 57-47 victory over Newman.

Turnovers were the Bearcats biggest enemy in the first quarter, four coming in the first five minutes of the period. However, a Jaelyn Haggard jump shot and 3-pointer on back-to-back possessions helped Northwest stay tied 10-10 at the end of the quarter.

Freshman guard Molly Hartnett started to heat up late in the second period as she scored six of her 14 total points, including four free throws, in the final three minutes of the half. Northwest took a slim 23-20 lead in halftime.

After scoring 13 points in the first five minutes of the third quarter, the Bearcat offense went quiet for the next four minutes before a Jaelyn Haggard 3-pointer gave the hosts a 39-35 lead heading into the final period.

Three Haggard 3-pointers midway through the period gave the Bearcats the momentum they needed to finish the game strong. The offense started to heat up late in the quarter as the home team went on an 10-6 run to close the game.

The Bearcats are back for more home action as they take on Central Oklahoma Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
