The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team begins a big week Tuesday night when they seek to bounce back from two losses this past weekend.
LAST TIME VS. EMPORIA STATE
The Bearcats were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2019-20 MIAA tournament by eventual runner-up, the Lady Hornets. One day after a four-point victory over Central Oklahoma, the Bearcats could not extend their postseason run by upsetting the second seed and fell to Emporia State, 80-52.
Jaelyn Haggard scored eight points in the contest while
Mallory McConkey recorded seven points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists.
In the lone regular season match up in January 2020, the Bearcats kept the score closer, but still eventually fell to the Lady Hornets, 79-66. Haggard led the team with 19 points while McConkey recorded seven assists.
Kylie Coleman also pulled down a team-best six rebounds.
ABOUT THE LADY HORNETS (5-2)
Currently, Emporia State ranks third in the conference in scoring (70.9 ppg) and fifth in opponent scoring (61.9 ppg). The Lady Hornets are shooting 41.4 percent from the field, including a conference-best 35.4 percent from 3-point land.
Sophomore guard Tre'Zure Jobe is coming off a stellar freshman season where she was named and leads Emporia State in minutes played (38.9 min/game), scoring (21.3 ppg), free throw percentage (89.7%), assists (31), and steals (21). Her 21.3 ppg also ties for first among all MIAA players. Senior guards Kali Martin (12.3 ppg, 13 steals) and Fredricka Sheats (10.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 15 assists) are also among top contributors for the Lady Hornets.

Molly Hartnett (13.1 ppg, 70.4 FT%) and senior guards Jaelynn Haggard (9.1 ppg, 14 3FG) and
Kylie Coleman (8.4 ppg, 49.0 FG%, 15 3FG). Harnett and senior guard
Mallory McConkey also lead Northwest with 17 assists each.
Coleman and sophomore forward
Jayna Green have each recorded eight steals on the season while Green also leads the team with seven blocks. Hartnett leads the squad with 38 rebounds (4.8 rgp) and McConkey has pulled down 30 rebounds of her own (3.8 rpg).
