The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team improved to 4-2 on the season with a 9-7 triumph at Ouachita Baptist on Saturday.
Ouachita Baptist dented the scoreboard in the first with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
Northwest bounced back in the second with a two-run double from junior college transfer
Donovan Warren. Warren's knock plated
Ryan Koski and
Jordan Peck to give the Bearcats a 2-2 advantage.
Single runs in the third and fourth put the Tigers back on top, 4-3.
The reigning MIAA player of the week
Matt Gastner used the long ball to even it up at 3-3 in the fifth.
Senior
Connor Quick drew a bases loaded walk in the sixth to lift Northwest into the lead at 4-3.
Peck launched a solo homer in the seventh to push the Bearcat lead to 5-3.
However, the Tigers retook the lead with a three-run homer in the seventh from Tyler Riebock. Riebock's home run gave OBU a 6-5 lead.
The Bearcats trailed 6-5 going into the ninth inning but rallied to score four in their last at bat.
Peter Carlson led off the ninth with a strikeout, but Peck followed with a double and Koski drew a walk. Redshirt freshman
Chase Broeker struck out leaving the Bearcats only a single out to play with. Warren drew a walk to load the bases to set up the two-out drama for the Bearcats.
Junior
Jacob Pinkerton laced a double that scored
Joseph Curtis, who had pinch run for Koski, and Peck to give Northwest a 7-6 lead.
Calvin Rudolph produced a two-run single that scored Pinkerton and Warren to make it 9-6 in Northwest's favor.
OBU scored a run on a sac bunt in the ninth to finish the scoring and giving Northwest the 9-7 triumph.
