Bearcats fight for 11-10 win over the Wildcats

Northwest 11, Wayne State 10 (BOX SCORE)

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – The Northwest Missouri State University softball team defeated Wayne State 11-10 on a two-run walk-off homer from freshman Abby Nolte in extra innings Saturday at the Drury Invitational.

Wayne State got on the board first with a two-run homer in the first inning.

The Wildcats went up two more runs in the top of the third inning to push their lead to 4-0 over the Bearcats.

Olivia Daugherty started the momentum for the Bearcats in the bottom of the third inning with a single to left field. Next at bat, Jacee Winn singled to the shortstop to advance Daugherty to second. Shortly after, Karli Allen was walked which put Daugherty in scoring position. Abby Nolte then hit a two RBI single to left field bringing in Winn and Daugherty to score. Next at bat, Alexis Kump hit an RBI single to center field that brought in Allen to score and cut the Wildcats' lead, 4-3.

Wayne State scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning to push their again to 6-3 over the Bearcats.

Northwest answered in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homer from Kaitlyn Weis to cut Wayne State's lead to 6-5.

The Wildcats fought back in the top of the fifth inning scoring three more runs to advance the lead, 9-5.

Kump hit a three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Wayne State lead to 9-8.

Nolte got on base off a fielding error by the right fielder that allowed Erin Keeney to score in the bottom of the sixth inning and tie the game, 9-9.

The seventh inning was left scoreless, pushing the game into extra innings.

The Wildcats scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to take back the lead, 10-9.

The Bearcats fought back in the bottom of the eighth with a walk-off home run from Nolte to push the Bearcats past the Wildcats, 11-10.
