ST. JOSEPH, Missouri. - The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team lost to the Missouri Western State Griffons 77-49.
The Bearcats could not find the basket in the first half shooting only 23.1% from the field. Northwest trailed 33-16 at the half. The Bearcats cut the margin to nine at the close of the third quarter, 52-43. Northwest's
Jaelyn Haggard drained a three-pointer at the third quarter buzzer. Northwest outscored Missouri Western in the third, 27-19. The Bearcats shot 66.7% in the third quarter including a scorching 75% (6-8) from behind the arc.
Missouri Western took over in the fourth quarter, starting the quarter on a 19-2 run.
Points in the paint was one of the pitfalls of the Bearcats in this game losing that battle 42-14.
The Bearcats were led in scoring by
Kendey Eaton with 16, followed by
Mallory McConkey with 15 and
Jaelyn Haggard with 14. McConkey and
Jayna Green led Northwest with seven rebounds.
Corbyn Cunningham led the Griffons with 26 points and added 12 rebounds to give herself a double-double on the night. Anastacia Johnson added 14 points as well. Johnson led the Griffons in assists with five.
The Bearcats will play their final game of the year on Thursday against Washburn in Bearcat Arena at 5:30 p.m. Senior night festivities will take place before the game.
