In the last game of 2020, the Bearcats pulled off a one-point victory over the Missouri Western Griffons on a Molly Hartnett layup with two seconds to play in the contest. The win marked the first victory for the Bearcats in St. Joseph since February 12, 2011.
 
Hartnett (18 points) and Kylie Coleman (14 points) led the Bearcat scoring effort while the defense forced 13 Griffon turnovers and 37.5 percent shooting from the floor for the Griffons.
 
Heading into 2021, the Bearcats post a 3-2 record and look forward to a road game at Pittsburg State before meeting Washburn and Emporia State for home action in Bearcat Arena beginning January 7th.
 
BEARCAT LEADERS
Molly Hartnett leads the Bearcats with 16.2 ppg while Jaelyn Haggard is averaging 10.8 ppg. Hartnett is also pulling down 5.8 rpg and Mallory McConkey is contributing 4.4 rpg as well. McConkey has also recorded 12 assists.
 
IN THE CONFERENCE
Northwest currently leads MIAA schools in field goal percentage with 45.2 percent on 118-for-261 shooting from the floor. The Bearcat defense also ranks 3rd in scoring defense and opponent 3-point percentage, while also ranking 3rd in turnover margin versus opponents.

ABOUT THE GORILLAS
Pittsburg State currently posts a 4-3 record coming into Saturday's match up versus the Bearcats. Last season's leading scorer, guard Tristan Greg, returns as a junior averaging 17.6 ppg and dishing out 13 assists along the way. Junior guard Kaylee DaMitz is also averaging 16.9 ppg and has handed out 38 assists as well. Senior forward Maya Williams rounds out double digit scorers with 11.3 ppg and pulls down 6.2 rpg to lead the team. The Gorillas are currently shooting 39 percent from the floor, including 29.7 percent from 3-point range. The Gorillas also lead the MIAA with 87.7 percent free throws made, sinking 114 in 130 attempts.
 
LAST TIME VS. PITT STATE
The Bearcats dropped an overtime thriller to the Gorillas in Bearcat arena last February, 77-76. Mallory McConkey led Northwest scorers with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting while Jayna Green contributed 11 points and 9 rebounds.
