Bearcat football to scrimmage Washburn, UCM

A football scheduling agreement between the University of Central Missouri, Northwest Missouri State and Washburn University will allow the trio of teams to scrimmage each other this November.

Nov. 7 – Northwest at Washburn, 3 p.m. (Tickets - SOLD OUT)
Nov. 14 – Washburn at Central Missouri, 3 p.m.
Nov. 21 – Central Missouri at Northwest, 3 p.m.

The matchups will not count for any school records or coaching records as the three teams have entered into a gentleman's agreement to have starters play the first half and then have reserves play the remainder of the scrimmage.

Northwest will limit attendance to player families. Northwest will continue to investigate the feasibility of allowing more fans to attend the home scrimmage as Nov. 21 approaches. Social distancing and face coverings will be required at each venue. No tailgating will be allowed.

Northwest and its opponents will be tested for COVID-19 once a week, per NCAA resocialization rules.

"It is going to have the feel of an NFL exhibition where in the first half we have the starters for each team going after it," Northwest head coach Rich Wright said. "The second half will provide an opportunity for our younger players, who normally would not get that chance in the fall, to gain development and growth against outside competition."

Northwest will provide radio coverage of each scrimmage on KXCV-KRNW and the Bearcat Radio Network with John Coffey and Matt Tritten on the call. The home school will offer video of each scrimmage on The MIAA Network (free to view).

"It's not how we drew up this season, but I'm happy that we could work together with Central Missouri and Washburn to give our football student-athletes an opportunity to suit up in a competition type of atmosphere," Wright said. "The safety of our student-athletes and coaching staffs is the top priority and with this controlled environment we will be able to take the field and learn about each of our teams."

The scrimmages are subject to change and cancellation.
