TOPEKA, Kansas - The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat volleyball team notched a 3-0 sweep of the William Jewell Cardinals on Saturday at Lee Arena in the Washburn Invitational.
Northwest won by set scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-19.
Hallie Sidney,
Maddy Ahrens and
Morgan Lewis paced the Bearcat offensive attack. Sidney notched a match-high 15 kills, while Ahrens dished out 40 assists in the three-set win. Lewis hit .500 with nine kills and no attack errors.
Northwest hit .366 in the first set with 19 kills and four attack errors. Sidney started strong with eight kills in the first set.
The Bearcats turned it up defensively in the second set. The Cardinals hit minus-.026 with eight kills and nine attack errors. Sidney recorded two of match-high three service aces in the second stanza.
Northwest closed out the three-game sweept with a 25-19 win behind a strong set from
Rachel Sturdevant. She entered the third set with no kills and two attack errors on four swings. However, that all changed in the third as she put down eight of her 10 attacks for kills to pave the way for the Bearcat victory. Northwest posted 22 kills and hit .525 in the third set.
The Bearcats will take on No. 18-ranked Drury at 1:30 p.m. today at the Washburn Invitational.
