MARYVILLE, Missouri - The No. 11-ranked Southwest Baptist Bearcat men's tennis team escaped with a 4-3 win over the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats at Saturday on the Frank Grube Courts at the
Mark Rosewell Tennis Center.
SBU moved to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in MIAA, while Northwest dropped to 8-7 overall and 2-1 in league duals.
Northwest took an early 1-0 lead by taking two of the three doubles matches. Northwest tallied doubles wins at No. 2 (
Franco Oliva/
Fabien Calloud) and No. 3 (
Agustin Velasco/
Rahul Manoah).Â
However, SBU turned the tables in singles play by winning four of the six matches to take the 4-3 dual win.
Northwest scored singles victories from No. 9-ranked
Franco Oliva and
Bjorn Kurtze.
Manoah and SBU's David Szeri battled at No. 4 singles before Szeri came away with a three-set win, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, to decide the dual.
