Golfers ready for MIAA Championship meet in Kansas

The Northwest Missouri State University women's golf team will travel to Mayetta, Kansas, April 22-24 to take part in the 2019 MIAA Championship meet.

The three-day, 54-hole championship will take place at Firekeeper Golf Course. Firekeeper Golf Course is the newest economic endeavor of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and the hottest new golf property in the Midwest. This award winning course is located in Mayetta, Kansas 15 miles north of Topeka just off Highway 75. Firekeeper is the first signature course of four-time PGA TOUR winner Notah Begay III, the only full-blooded Native American on the tour. He designed Firekeeper in partnership with Jeffrey D. Brauer, ASGCA.

The MIAA will feature live scoring during the championship.

The Bearcat women enter the MIAA meet ranked No. 14 in the region. The top 12 teams from the region will qualify for the NCAA Championship regional meet. 

Northwest is led by sophomore Morgan Thiele (Kearney, Nebraska). Thiele has a team-best 79.76 stroke average and fired a season-low round of 71. She has played nine rounds sub-80 this year and has earned four top-20 finishes.

Senior Nikki McCurdy (Leawood, Kansas) has an 80.65 stroke average. She shot a low round of 75. She has tallied seven rounds in the 70s this season. McCurdy has three top-20 placements.

Sophomore Mady Acers (Blue Springs, Missouri) has an 81.15 stroke average. She also has a low round of 75 on the season. She has fired four rounds in the 70s. Acers has a pair of top-20 finishes.

Senior Elise McDonough (St. Louis, Missouri) has an 81.55 stroke average. She shot a low round of 77 this year. She has shot three rounds in the 70s. McDonough has three top-20 finishes.

Sophomore Anna Zech (Kearney, Missouri) has an 81.76 stroke average. She shot a low round of 75 this year. She has shot four rounds in the 70s. Zech has one top-20 finish.

Northwest has shot five of the program's eight best single-scoring rounds this season, including a school record 308 in the Central Regional Fall Preview held at Muskogee Country Club in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
