ST. JOSEPH, Missouri - The Missouri Western State University Griffons rallied for a six-run eighth inning to score a 7-6 win over the Northwest Missouri State University baseball squad to complete a three-game sweep of the Bearcats on Sunday.
Through the first five innings, it was all Northwest. The Bearcats (17-19, 13-11 MIAA) scored two runs in the top of the first, coming off a lead-off double by
Logan Rycraft. After
Calvin Rudolph walked, first baseman Connor quick singled through the right side on the infield and scored Rycraft to give Northwest the early lead. The Bearcat lead increased to two runs after
Alixon Herrera grounded into a double play, but Rudolph was able to score from third on the play.

After being held scoreless in the second, the Bearcats tacked on another run after Herrera slapped a two-out double to right field, scoring Rudolph who had singled earlier in the innings. Northwest found itself with a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.
The Griffons found their way onto the scoreboard after scoring a run in the home-half of the sixth inning.
The Bearcats answered in the top of the seventh after Rycraft scored on a sacrifice fly by Herrera. Herrera notched two RBI on the day.
Northwest added two more in the eighth on a two-run home run from
Derek Hussey and increased its lead to 6-1. It was Hussey's first home run in two seasons as a Bearcat.
Missouri Western tallied six runs on five hits to take the lead away from Northwest in the eighth.Â
Senior Jacob Miller walked onto the hill in the ninth for the Griffons a successfully recorded the save, his first of the 2019 season.

Joe Funkhouser got the start on the mound for Northwest, going 6 2/3 innings. Funkhouser gave up one run on six hits and struck out four. Freshman

NOTES: After winning six games in a row, the Bearcats have dropped their last four games … Rudolph (16) and Quick (13) extended their team-leading hitting streaks … Quick extends his team-high on-base streak to 20 games.
