Griffons sweep double dip vs. Bearcats

GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE

ST. JOSEPH, Missouri - The Missouri Western State University Griffons swept both games of a doubleheader against the Northwest Missouri State University softball squad on Wednesday.

Missouri Western posted an 11-8 win in game one and followed it up with a 5-1 triumph in the night cap.

Game One
Missouri Western started the game hot by scoring five runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second.

The Bearcats answered in the third with an RBI from Erin Keeney bringing in Jaedra Moses to cut the lead to 9-1.

Olivia Daugherty doubled to left-center scoring Karli Allen in the top of the fourth cutting the lead to 9-2.

The Bearcats rallied with a six-run sixth inning to pull within one run of the Griffons. Daugherty doubled again scoring Grace Ruehle and Sydne Brashear. Next at bat, Moses hit an RBI bringing in Ady Watts. Keeney hit a three-run home run to left field to slice the lead to 9-8.

The Griffons added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth to close out the scoring at 11-8.

Game Two
The Bearcats were the first to dent the scoreboard with an RBI from Kaitlyn Weis scoring Olivia Daugherty in the first.

The Griffons answered in the bottom of the second tying the score at 1-1.

Western would go on to score two in the third and another pair in the sixth, to take the game, 5-1.

Northwest falls to 3-11 overall and 0-6 in MIAA play.
 
Up next for Northwest is the Hy-Vee Classic hosted by Missouri Western. Northwest will play two games on Thursday. Northwest will take on Northern State at 4 p.m., followed by another contest against Augustana at 6 p.m.
