Bearcats say Aloha to win in Hawaii

The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat women's basketball team bounced back from its loss yesterday and defeated the Lindenwood-Belleville Lynx in its second game of the Malika Sports Classic, 67-52.

The Bearcats are 6-5 and the Lynx drop to 8-3. Northwest made 11 threes and limited Lindenwood-Belleville to five made threes. The Bearcat bench outscored the Lynx bench, 22-8. 

The Bearcat defense got off to an unusually slow start allowing 20 points in the first quarter including a half-court buzzer beater.  The Bearcats trailed 20-16 after the first quarter. The Bearcats came out in the second quarter and played better on both sides of the ball. Northwest outscored the Lynx 19-13 to take a 35-33 lead at the half. 

The Bearcats took the third quarter, 17-10. The team caught fire at the end of third quarter, ending the quarter on a 9-0 run, including seven from Kendey Eaton

The Bearcats continued that run into the fourth quarter scoring the first six points, and extended the run to 22-3, at which point the Bearcats led 65-46. The Bearcats were able to control the second half to the tune of a 32-19 second half score. 

Eaton led all scorers with 22 points. Mia Stillman was also in double figures with 11. Eaton led the team in rebounds with five. Erika Schlosser led the Bearcats with six assists. Northwest controlled the ball only committing 12 turnovers, to the Lynx 16. Northwest turned those 16 turnovers into 25 points.  The Bearcats outrebounded the Lynx, 33-30. 

Brianna Mueller led the Lynx with 20 points and six assists. Zaria Valle led the Lynx with nine rebounds. 

Northwest will be back in action on Jan. 4, against Northeastern State at 1:30 p.m. in Bearcat Arena.
