KEARNEY, Nebraska - The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats women's basketball team lost to Wayne State in the season opener, 61-57.
The game was close throughout with eight lead changes. The Bearcats missed a 3-pointer to take the lead with three seconds left in the game. The Bearcats struggled to find the basket shooting only 40.7% from the field, and only 20% from behind the 3-point line. Northwest held Wayne State to 37% shooting from the field, but allowed them to shoot nine more shots from the FT line.Â
Kendey Eaton led the Bearcats in scoring with 17, followed by
Jayna Green with 11 andÂ
Paityn Rau with 10. Green led the team with seven rebounds,
Mia Stillman and
Erika Schlosser each added five. Schlosser led the team in assists with four.
Erin Norling led the Wildcats with 19 points. Halley Busse added 15 points and Brittany Bongartz scored 13. Norling and Bongartz each added six rebounds. The Wildcats had 40 team rebounds and made 14-of-22 free throws.Â
The Bearcats will be back in action tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. against Minnesota-Crookston.Â
