ST. JOSEPH, Missouri – The Northwest Missouri State University women's basketball team saw its two-game MIAA road winning streak come to an end Saturday against Missouri Western at the MWSU Fieldhouse, 66-43.
The Griffons (9-7 overall, 4-3 MIAA) shot 50.0 from the field (23-of-46) and out-rebounded the Bearcats, 36-23.
The Bearcats shot a season-low 23.8 percent from the field and were limited to one made three-pointer. The last time Northwest was held to one made three-pointer in a game came against Missouri Western on Feb. 10, 2016.
Northwest drained 22-of-28 free throws (78.6 percent). Northwest entered the contest ranked No. 2 in the nation in free throw percentage (80.4 percent), trailing only Lenoir-Rhyne (80.7 percent).
Kaylani Maiava and
Kendey Eaton each scored a team-high nine points. Maiava also added a team-best five rebounds.
Northwest falls to 6-10 overall and 2-5 in MIAA play.
The Bearcats will be in action again Thursday at Nebraska-Kearney. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. in Kearney, Neb.
