RIVALRY WEEK
The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team plays only one game this week at Missouri Western on Saturday. Northwest is 2-4 in conference play and Missouri Western is 3-3. Northwest has found success on the road in conference play with two victories away from home. Northwest and Missouri Western split the season series last year.
LAST TIME OUT
The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team lost to the Washburn Ichabods at Bearcat Arena, 70-51.
The Bearcats fell victim to poor shooting again shooting 34 percent from the field. Northwest also shot 33 percent from behind the three-point line. The Ichabods outrebounded the Bearcats, 38-25. Both teams had 15 turnovers in the game.Â
Northwest was led in scoring byÂ
Jaelyn Haggard with 18 points. Haggard went 5-of-6 from the three point line and and overall was 6-of-7 from the field.Â
Kaylani Maiava was also in double figures with 13 points and led the team with eight rebounds.Â
Erika Schlosser led the team with four assists.
DEFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT
Defense has been a huge emphasis for head coachÂ
Austin Meyer and the Bearcats this year. It has been a huge improvement for them moving from last in the conference last year in team scoring defense to sixth this year. Last year the team allowed 74.1 ppg and this year that number has drastically improved to 61.7. Northwest has not allowed less than 60 ppg for a season since the 2012-2013 season.Â
