MARYVILLE, Missouri - The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team ran its win streak to six in a row with a 3-0 sweep of Missouri Western Tuesday at Bearcat Arena. Northwest won by set scores of 25-22, 25-15, 25-20.

Northwest (11-3 overall, 3-0 MIAA) was led by Maddy Bruder's sixth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 13 digs. Bethany Elkins posted her second straight double-figure kill effort with 10 kills (.333). Maddy Ahrens notched her fifth double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs. Ahrens also added three kills and three blocks. Olivia Nowakowski tied for team-high honors with 13 digs.

The opening set was tied 17 times before Northwest scored the final three points to take it, 25-22. Elkins had five first-set kills to pace the Bearcats. Northwest enjoyed a 14-11 kill advantage in the opening stanza. The Bearcats held Western to .026 hitting percentage in the set.

The Bearcats turned a 9-9 tie into a 22-11 advantage with a 13-2 run behind the play of Bruder. Bruder had seven kills and no errors in 13 attacks in the second set. Hallie Sidney bounced back in the second set with five kills after she was shut out in the first. Northwest hit .300 in the second set, while limiting Western to .095 in the second. Northwest sided out at 73 percent in the second. The Bearcats scored a 25-15 win to take a 2-0 lead.

Northwest came into the match 10-0 when leading after two sets and that trend continued against Western in Bearcat Arena.

Western gained a 13-11 lead, but a 7-2 spurt by Northwest gave the home squad an 18-15 lead in the final set. Western battled back to knot it up at 19-19 only to see the Bearcats rattle off six of the final seven points for the 25-20 triumph. Sofia Schleppenbach had a set-high six kills in the third. Northwest enjoyed a 19-13 kill advantage in the third.

The Bearcats will be back in action Friday at 6 p.m. against Missouri Southern in Joplin, Missouri.
