Volleyball travels to Kansas City for Rockhurst Classic

The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team will look to keep up its winning ways this weekend at the Rockhurst Classic.

The tournament will be hosted by Rockhurst University and competition will held at Mason-Halpin Field House in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Bearcats (4-0 overall) did not drop a set in winning all four matches at the Washburn Invitational. Northwest posted sweeps of Colorado State-Pueblo, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Henderson State and Dallas Baptist.
 
Northwest received nine votes in the latest AVCA Division II top 25 poll. The Bearcat volleyball program has been ranked nine times in its history – with the highest ranking of No. 16 on Oct. 24, 2016.
 
Senior Maddy Bruder was named the MVP of the Washburn Invitational. Bruder averaged 3.75 kills per set and hit .305. She also averaged 2.50 digs and added seven service aces. She began the weekend by earning her 43rd career double-double with 10 kills (.474) and 10 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Colorado State-Pueblo. Bruder notched 11 kills, eight digs and three assists in a 3-0 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State. Bruder secured a match-high 14 kills (.323) and added six digs and four service aces in a 3-0 triumph over Henderson State. She capped the weekend with a match-high 10 kills to go along with six digs and three service aces in a 3-0 win over Dallas Baptist. Bruder surpassed the 1,000 career dig mark in the win over Southeastern Oklahoma State. Bruder has tallied 1,013 career digs.
 
Sophomore Maddy Ahrens was named to the all-tournament team at the Washburn Invitational after helping Northwest to a perfect 4-0 start to the season. Ahrens averaged 11.25 assists per set, 2.92 digs per set and 0.83 blocks per set. Ahrens had 32 assists, eight digs, four kills and three blocks in the season-opening 3-0 win over Colorado State-Pueblo. Ahrens secured 33 assists, six digs and four kills in a sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma State. Ahrens recorded a double-double with 43 assists and 11 digs to go along with four blocks in a 3-0 win over Henderson State. Ahrens posted her fourth career double-double with 27 assists and 10 digs in a 3-0 victory over Dallas Baptist.
 
Hallie Sidney also earned all-tournament honors at the Washburn Invite. Sidney posted 41 kills and a .313 hitting percentage. Sidney tied a career-high with 15 kills (.448) in the season-opening win over Colorado State-Pueblo. Sidney notched 13 kills (.440) in a 3-0 win over Henderson State.
 
Olivia Nowakowski has posted 1,315 career digs to rank No. 7 on Northwest's all-time digs list. Sarah Trowbridge ranks No. 6 with 1,401 digs from 2003-2006.
 
Rachel Sturdevant recorded the third-highest attack percentage in a three-set match in school history in Northwest's 3-0 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Aug. 24. Sturdevant posted 13 kills in 19 attacks with one error for a .632 hitting percentage.
 
Head coach Amy Woerth has posted 96 career victories heading into the action this weekend at the Rockhurst Invitational. Woerth is looking to become the fourth Northwest volleyball coach to reach 100 career victories – Sarah Pelster (199 from 1991-2002), Pam Stanek (176 from 1977-1981) and Susie Homan (105 from 1982-1984).
