Softball splits day one of conference tournament


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University softball team defeats Missouri Western and falls to Emporia State on day one of conference tournament.
- The Bearcats go to 26-18 overall, Missouri Western falls to 24-28, and Emporia State improves to 26-28.
Game One Key Statistics (Northwest 5, Missouri Western 3)
- Northwest scored one in the second, three in the fifth and one in the sixth inning. Missouri Western scored one in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
- The Bearcats had five runs on nine hits and three errors. The Griffons scored three runs on five hits and one error.
- Rebecca Maher finished 3-for-4 with one run scored, an RBI and one double.
- Sydne Brashear went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
- Jaedra Moses was 1-for-4 with one run scored.
- Erin Keeney finished 1-for-4 with one RBI, a run scored and a homerun.
- Karli Allen went 1-for-2 and was hit by a pitch.
- Kiana Baderdeen finished 1-for-3.
- Taylor Blackford picked up the win for the Cats throwing 6 innings, allowed only three runs on five hits and struck out two batters.
- Regan Thompson picked up her first save of the year after throwing one scoreless inning and allowing no hits.

Game One Key Innings
- In the bottom of the second inning, Keeney put the Bearcats in the lead when she lifted her 13th homerun on the year over the right field fence.

- After an out, Maher and Moses both singled up the middle to put runners on. Weis reached on an error and advanced to second on the throw while Maher was able to score and Moses was moved to third. With two outs, Brashear singled up the middle to score both Moses and Weis to put the Bearcats up 4-2.

- Allen started the bottom of the sixth after getting hit by a pitch and Lynnlee Parrott came in to run for her. Parrott moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Rawie. Baderdeen singled up the middle to put runners on the corners and Maher brought in Parrott with a double to center field to conclude the scoring for the Bearcats.
 
Game Two Key Statistics (Northwest 10 , Emporia State 11)
- The Bearcats scored two runs in the fourth and eight runs in the seventh inning. Emporia State scored two runs in the second, third and fourth innings and five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
- Northwest had ten runs on 13 hits and three errors. The Hornets had 11 runs on 15 hits and one error.
- Maher finished the day going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
- Moses went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Weis also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a stolen base and she had one RBI.
- Gilson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and she also scored a run.
- Allen went 2-for-4 with one run scored and a double.
- Jessica Rawie finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double and one RBI.
- Keeney was 1-for-3 and drew a walk.

Game Two Key Innings
- Maher started the top of the fourth inning with a single to left field and after an out she moved to second on a single up the middle by Weis. Keeney would then load the bases with a single to center field. Brashear would put the Bearcats on the board when she reached on a fielder's choice to score Maher from third. Gilson would follow it up with a single through the left side to score Weis and cut the lead to two.

- In the top of the seventh, Allen singled to the left field to start a rally for the Cats. Parrott would then come in to run for Allen and she quickly moved to third on a double to left center by Rawie. Baderdeen reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Maher singled to left center and would advance to second on the throw while Parrott and Rawie were able to score. Moses hit a sharp single to the pitcher to score Baderdeen. After a pitching change, Weis singled to right center to score Maher from second and put Moses on third. Keeney would draw a no out walk to load the bases and Kenzi Sutton would come in to run. Brashear would bring Moses in on a putout at first to give the Bearcats the lead. Gilson kept the hitting going with a single to left center to score Weis and advance Sutton to third. Sutton then came in to score on a double to right center by Allen to continue the scoring for the Bearcats. To conclude the rally, Rawie singled to right center to score Gilson and to make the score 10-6.
