Baseball takes final game from Griffons


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team defeats Missouri Western in late innings at Maryville, Mo.
- The Bearcats improve to 28-18 overall and 21-9 in conference while the Griffons fall to 23-21 overall and 15-15 in conference play.

Key Northwest Statistics
- Northwest scored one run in the first, three in the third, two in the sixth and seventh innings. The Griffons scored two in the third and five in the fourth inning.
- The Bearcats had eight runs on ten hits with two errors. Missouri Western had seven runs on 11 hits with three errors.
- Mondesi Gutierrez finished the day going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, four RBIs and two home-runs. 
- Kevin Handzlik went 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored.
- Hudson Bilodeau was 1-for-5 with one run scored. 
- Luke Hassman finished 1-for-3 with a run scored. 
- Aaron Barratt went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
- Matt Schingel was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. 
- Derek Hussey went 1-for-4 a stolen base. 
- Logan Rycraft drew two walks, scored once and stole two bases. 
- Trevor Dudar picked up his 12th save of the year which ties him with the most saves in a single season. 

Key Northwest Innings
- After an out, Gutierrez sent his first homerun on the year over the left field fence to put the Bearcats up 1-0.

- Rycraft got the Bearcats going after he drew a one out walk in the bottom of the third inning. Bilodeau then moved him to second on a bunt single to the third baseman. Rycraft and Bilodeau would then come around to score on a three-run homerun by Gutierrez to put the Bearcats up 4-2.

- In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hassman led off with a single through the left side and moved to second on a bunt single by Handzlik. Both runners moved in to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Barratt. Schingel single through the right side to score both Hassman and Handzlik to cut the Griffon lead.

- In the bottom of the seventh inning, Gutierrez singled through the left side and Figg reached on an error. Both runners advanced to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Hassman. Handzlik hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Gutierrez. With two outs, Barratt hit a single to center field to score Figg and put the Bearcats ahead 8-7.
