KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer program landed two student-athletes on the 2018 all-MIAAÂ squads.
Junior midfielders
Emily Madden (St. Joseph, Mo.) and
Izzy Romano (Kansas City, Mo.) represent the Bearcats on the all-MIAA selections.Â
Madden earned third-team all-MIAA honors. She started 15 matches and led the Bearcats in goals (3), assists (2) and points (8). Madden netted her first career hat trick in a 3-2 win at Southwest Baptist (Oct. 14).
Romano was named all-MIAA honorable mention. She started 12 matches and recorded 13 shots for the Bearcats in 2018. Four of Romano's shots were on goal.
The MIAA regular season champions Central Oklahoma placed eight student-athletes on the 2018 All-MIAA women's soccer first team. UCO also picked up the MIAA's five individual awards.
Katie Killion was named the 2018 MIAA Offensive Player of the Year. The senior led the conference with 24 goals (1.3 goals per game), 56 points (3.1 points per game) Â and 94 shots (5.2 shots per game). Killion leads Division II in total goals, total points and game-winning goals (11). She currently ranks third in the nation for points per game and goals per game.
Kelsey Gordon was selected as the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year for 2018. In her junior season, she helped the Bronchos to an MIAA best 12 shutouts. Gordon led the defense to allow just seven goals (.39 goals against average) and .389 goals against average per game. Central Oklahoma led the MIAA and ranked top 10 in Division II for both categories.
Freshman Kelsi Gibson was tabbed as the Goalkeeper of the Year in the MIAA. She had an MIAA leading 10 shutouts for UCO. Gibson also led the association with a .290 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage. In Division II, she ranks fifth in goals-against average and ninth for save percentage.Â
Defender Taryn Kedzior earned Freshman of the Year accolades. She was apart of the Bronchos defensive line that had a 0.667 shutout percentage, the sixth-best in Division II. With Kedzior's help, the Bronchos rank eighth nationally with just seven goals allowed. Offensively, she also had four assists on the season.
In his 20th season at Central Oklahoma, Mike Cook led the team to the 2018 MIAA regular season title and its best record (10-1) since joining the MIAA in 2012. The Bronchos finished the regular season with a 17-1 record, the best in program history.Â
