Softball falls twice in MIAA Tournament on Friday


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University softball team fell to Central Oklahoma and Emporia State on Friday in the MIAA Tournament at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla.
- Northwest lead for nearly the entire way of the first game before UCO rallied in the sixth to take the decision, 4-3.
- Emporia state scored five times in the fifth inning to beat the Bearcats in the second game, 5-1.
- Northwest finishes the MIAA Tournament at 2-2 and are 29-21 on the season.
Game One Key Statistics (Central Oklahoma 4, Northwest 3)
- Northwest scored two runs in the third and one in the fourth. The Bronchos scored one in the third and three in the sixth.
- The Bearcats had three runs on six hits with two errors. Central Oklahoma scored four runs on nine hits with no errors.
- Torri Blythe was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- Kaitlyn Weis and Rebecca Maher each drove in a run, going 1-for-3.
- Karli Allen went 1-for-3 with a home run in the fourth inning.
- Jaedra Moses went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
- Taylor Blackford threw 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits. She struck out two and did not issue a walk.
- Weis recorded the final two outs of the sixth inning in the circle. She allowed one run on one hit.

Game One Key Innings
- The Bearcats got a two-out rally in the third to take an early lead. Moses and Bythe hit back-to-back infield singles. Weis got down 0-2 and fouled off three straight pitches before hitting an RBI single up the middle to drive in Moses. Maher kept the streak going with a single of her own to center, allowing Blythe to score to make it 2-0 Northwest.

- Allen hit her fourth home run of the year and her second in as many games with two down in the fourth inning. The solo shot put Northwest up, 3-1.
Game Two Key Statistics (Emporia State 5, Northwest 1)
- The Bearcats scored once in the fourth. Emporia State scored all five runs in the fifth.
- Northwest had one run on five hits. The Hornets had five runs on seven hits. Neither team had an error.
- Rebecca Maher was 2-for-3.
- Weis was 1-for-3 with a double. She scored the Bearcat run in the fourth.
- Chantel Adams was 1-for-2 with an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
- Allen went 1-for-3.
- Holly Posegate got the start in the circle, going 4.1 innings. She allowed four runs on five hits.
- Blackford threw the final 1.2 innings. She allowed one run on two hits, striking out one.

Game Two Key Innings
- Weis fouled off four straight pitches before driving a double to the wall in right center to lead off the fourth. Maher caught the defense off guard by laying down a bunt single to the first base line to put runners on the corners. Adams hit a sacrifice fly to deep left, allowing Weis to score the first run of the game.

- Posegate set the Hornets down in order in the third and fourth innings, retiring eight straight batters. Blackford worked a three-up and three-down inning in the sixth.
