Bearcats split double header in Hays


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University softball team split a double header against Fort Hays State on Saturday at Tiger Stadium in Hays, Kan.
- Northwest is now 24-16 overall and 13-7 in MIAA play. The Tigers are now 13-37 on the year and 6-18 in conference action.
- Fort Hays won the first game, 2-1, but the Bearcats came back to win the second game, 7-4.
Game One Key Statistics (Fort Hays 2, Northwest 1)
- Northwest scored its lone run in the first inning. The Tigers got two runs in the fifth inning.
- The Bearcats had one run on five hits and Fort Hays had two runs on three hits. Neither team had an error.
- Rebecca Maher had a double, going 2-for-3.
- Torri Blythe scored a run and had a double, going 1-for-3.
- Chantel Adams was 1-for-2 with a first inning RBI on a sacrifice fly.
- Kiana Baderdeen went 1-for-3 with a stolen base.
- Kaitlyn Weis drew a walk.
- Taylor Blackford threw all 6.0 innings. She allowed just two runs on three hits. She struck out three and did not issue a walk. Blackford retired the first 12 batters she faced, working perfect first, second, third and fourth innings.

Game One Key Innings
- In the first, Bythle started the game with a double down the left field line. After a foul out, Maher hit a double down the left field line to move Blyte up the third. After a  walk, Adams hti a sacrifice fly to center to score Bythe from third.
Game Two Key Statistics (Northwest 7, Fort Hays 4)
- The Bearcats scored one in the first, one in the fifth, four in the sixth and one in the seventh. Fort Hays had one in the first and three in the sixth.
- Northwest had seven runs on 10 hits with three errors. The Tigers scored four runs on nine hits with an error.
- Weis was 2-for-4 in the second game with a double and three RBIs. She also pitched the final 2.0 innings, allowing three unearned runs on four hits. She did not allow a walk.
- Jessica Rawie was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and a walk.
- Karli Allen was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
- Adams was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. She also reached on a walk.
- Jaedra Moses was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. She also had a stolen base.
- Maher and Abigail Gilson each went 1-for-4.
- Blythe drove in a run, scored once and drew a walk.
- Lea Crouse and Baderdeen each scored a run in the game.
- Holly Posegate got the win, throwing 5.0 innings. She allowed one run on five hits with a strikeout. She did not issue a walk.

Game Two Key Innings
- Rawie led off the second with a walk and Gilson moved her to third with a single to left center. Allen hit a double to right center, driving in Rawie to make it 1-0 Bearcats.

- In the fifth, Moses singled to lead off and stole second. Blythe grounded out but it allowed Moses to take third. Weis reached on an error by the shortstop, allowing Moses to cross the plate.

- Rawie began the sixth with a double to left center. After an out, Allen singled to move Rawie to third. Kailey Siemonsma pinch hit and drew a walk to load the bases. Moses reached on a fielder's choice but Rawie was forced out at the plate. Blythe drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run. Weis then cleared the bases with a double to left center on an 0-2 pitch, giving Northwest a 6-1 lead.

- Adams started the seventh with a triple to right center. Rawie took the first pitch she saw into right field for an RBI single, scoring Adams.
Up Next
- Northwest will host Lindenwood in a makeup game at Bearcat Field on Monday, April 17, starting at 2 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, but has been moved up due to weather.
