Softball wins twice on Saturday in Joplin


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University softball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday against Maryville University and Drury University.
- Both games were played as part of the Teri Mathis-Zenner Tournament hosted by Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo.
- Northwest moves to an even 6-6 on the year with the two victories.
- The Bearcats beat Maryville University, 8-7, before claiming a 7-4 victory over Drury in the late afternoon game.
 
Game One Key Statistics (Northwest 8, Maryville 7)
- Northwest scored two runs in the first, two in the third, three in the fifth and one in the sixth. The Saints got two runs in the first and five in the sixth.
- The Bearcats scored eight runs on 12 hits with three errors. Maryville had seven runs on 13 hits with two errors.
- Chantel Adams was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. She had three doubles in the game.
- Karli Allen also went 3-for-4 against the Saints with a home run and a double. She drove in three runs and scored once.
- Rebecca Maher was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. She had two stolen bases in the game.
- Kaitlin Weis was 1-for-3 with a home run in the third inning. She also drew a walk and came around to score in the first inning.
- Jessica Rawie was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. She recorded a triple and a double.
- Torri Blythe was 1-for-5 with a stolen base
- Jaedra Moses drew a walk.
- Taylor Blackford got the win, pitching 5.0 innings. She allowed five runs on nine hits. She struck out two batters and walked two.
- Holly Posegate got the save, her first of the season. She worked the seventh inning, allowing one hit and no walks.

Game One Key Innings
- With two outs in the first, Maher singled to right center and stole second. After a Weis walk, Adams doubled to left center, driving in the first two runs of the game.

- Weis led off the third with a home run to left center. After a pair of outs, Rawie tripled to right center. Allen then took an 0-2 pitch into the gap in left center for a double, scoring Rawie to make it 4-2 Bearcats.

- Adams started the fifth with a double down the right field line. After a pitching change and a pop out, Rawie doubled down the left field line to score Adams. Allen then hit a two-run home run down the left field line to score Rawie, giving Northwest a 7-2 lead.

- The Bearcats added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Maher led off with a single and then stole second. Two batters later, Adams doubled to left center to drive in Maher.
 
Game Two Key Statistics (Northwest 7, Drury 4)
- The Bearcats scored two runs in the first, one in the second, one in the third and three in the sixth. Drury scored three runs in the second and one in the third.
- Northwest finished with seven runs on nine hits with two errors. The Panthers scored four runs on eight hits with an error.
- Weis put together a strong game, going 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.
- Abigail Gilson hit a three-run in the sixth inning. She also drew a walk.
- Blythe was 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. She also stole two bases in the game.
- Allen went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
- Moses was 1-for-4 on the day.
- Adams and Rawie each drew walks and came around to score runs in the second game.
- Kailey Siemonsma got a hit in her only at bat.
- Posegate got the complete game victory in the circle, her fourth of the year. She struck out three batters and did not issue a walk.

Game Two Key Innings
- In the first inning, Blythe reached on an error to begin the game and then stole second. She moved up to third on a ground out. After a popout, Weis launched a two-run shot over the left field fence to make it 2-0.

- Rawie led off the second and came around to score two batters later on an Allen single up the middle.

- In the third, Blythe would come around to score again after she led off the frame with a bunt single and then stole second. After a pair of out, Weis hit an infield single to second base, allowing Blythe to score from third to make it 4-3 Northwest.

- Weis led off the inning with a single and Adams followed it up with a walk. After a passed ball and a strikeout, Gilson put a ball over the right center field fence to break the tie and give the Bearcats the go ahead lead, 7-4.
 
Up Next
- Northwest will play two more games on Sunday before heading home. The Bearcats will face McKendree University at 10 a.m. followed by a noon contest against Upper Iowa.
