Softball falls in pair of Friday games


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University softball team fell to Minnesota-Duluth and Wayne State Nebraska on Friday at the HyVee Classic in St. Joseph, Mo.
- The Bearcats are now 10-8 on the season and will play four more times this weekend.
Game One Key Northwest Statistics (Minnesota-Duluth 7, Northwest 1)
- The Bearcats scored their run in the second while Duluth had five in the first, one in the second and one in the fourth.
- Northwest had one run on four hits with two errors. The Bulldogs had seven runs on 11 hits with two errors.
- Kaitlin Weis was 1-for-3 with a run scored. She also pitched 6.2 innings in relief, allowing two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. She walked just two batters.
- Abigail Gilson was 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the second.
- Jessica Rawie and Kiana Baderdeen were each 1-for-3.

Game One Key Northwest Inning
- Weis started the second with an infield single to short. Adams grounded out to the pitcher but it allowed Weis to take second. Gilson then singled home Northwest's first run to left, driving in Weis.

- In the circle, Weis worked a flawless third, needing just eight pitches.
 
Game Two Key Northwest Statistics (Wayne State 6, Northwest 5)
- The Bearcats got one run in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth and one in the seventh. Wayne State scored three in the second, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
- Northwest had five runs on 13 hits with one error. The Wildcats scored six runs on nine hits and committed four errors.
- Jaedra Moses was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double.
- Weis was 2-for-4 with a run scored. She also pitched a scoreless seventh inning, allowing one hit and a walk.
- Baderdeen went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Rawie was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Chantel Adams was 1-for-4 with a triple. She drove in a run and also scored once.
- Gilson scored a run, going 1-for-3 with a sacrifice.
- Karli Allen was 1-for-3 and also reached on a walk.
- Taylor Blackford worked six innings in the circle. She allowed six runs on eight hits with a strikeout.

Game Two Key Northwest Innings
- Gilson hit a one out single in the second and Allen followed it up with a walk. After an out, Moses single to load the bases. Blythe reached on an error by the second baseman, allowing Gilson to score.

- Weis led off the third inning with a single and came around to score on Adams' triple. Rawie tied the game, 3-3, as she singled to drive in Adams from third.

- In the fifth, Rawie led off with a single and went to second on an error by the pitcher. After an out, Allen singled to put runners on the corners. Baderdeen hit a one-out single to score Rawie from third to make it 5-4 Wayne State.

- With one down in the bottom of the seventh, Baderdeen and Moses hit back-to-back singles. Blythe reached on an error by the shortstop, allowing Baderdeen to score from third.

- Northwest will return to St. Joseph, Mo., on Saturday to take on Northern state at 10 a.m., followed by a 4 p.m. game against Minnesota State.
