Holler homers twice in loss to Missouri Southern


Story Headlines
- The Northwest MIssouri State University baseball team fell to Missouri Southern, 7-6, on Saturday afternoon at Warren Turner Field in Joplin, Mo.
- The Bearcats fall to 17-16 on the year and 12-11 in MIAA action. The No. 19 ranked Lions improved to 24-10 overall and 14-9 in conference play.
- James Holler went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. He hit his fourth and fifth home runs of the year on solo shots. It was his second multi-home run game of the season.

Key Northwest Statistics
- Northwest scored six runs on 11 hits with four errors. The Bearcats got two in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth and one in the eighth.
- Missouri Southern scored five runs in the fourth inning, one in the sixth and one in the seventh. The Lions finished the game with seven runs on seven hits with four errors.
- Nick Gotta was 2-for-6 with an RBI.
- Ozzie Adams also picked up a pair of hits, going 2-for-5 with a run scored.
- Garrett Fort went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. He scored two runs and was also hit by a pitch.
- Kevin Handzlik was 2-for-5 on the day.
- Kolby Greenslade was 1-for-5 on Saturday.
- Jake Lewis drew two walks on the day and scored a run.
- Derek Meyer drew a walk and had two sacrifice bunts.
- Joseph Hietpas got the start and went 5.2 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits. Only five of the runs were earned. He struck out five and walked five.
- Nikko Pablo pitched the final 2.1 innings. He allowed just one unearned run and struck out three.

Key Northwest Innings
- Northwest took advantage of four Lion errors in the top of the second. Lewis led off reaching on an error by the second baseman. After a pair of outs, Fort reached on a throwing error by the third baseman to put runners on the corners with two outs. A failed pickoff attempt allowed Lewis to score to make it 1-0 and Fort scored on an error by the left fielder on a ball hit by Gotta to make it 2-0.

- Holler hit his fourth home run of the year on a 1-0 pitch in the top of the third to score Adams who led off the inning with a single to left to make it 4-0 Northwest.

- Hietpas retired seven straight batters between the end of the first inning and the end of the third.

- With two down in the fifth, Fort singled on a bunt down the third base line. On a 2-2 pitch, Gotta drove a ball down the right field line for a single, allowing Fort to score all the way from first to tie the game, 5-5.

- With two outs in the eighth inning, Holler hit his fifth home run of the year, and second of the game, on a 1-0 pitch to right field. His blast cut the Lion lead to one run, 7-6.

- Pablo retired four-straight batters to finish the game for the Bearcats.
