Softball falls twice to Jennies


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University softball team fell to Central Missouri in a pair of MIAA games on Saturday at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg, Mo.
- The Jennies took the first game, 6-4, and won in the bottom of the seventh in the second game, 7-6.
- Northwest is now 17-5 overall and 5-3 in MIAA play. The Jennies improved to 13-12 overall and 5-3 in conference action.
- Central Missouri had a four-run inning in the first game and a five-run inning in the second game to secure the wins.
 
Game One Key Northwest Statistics (Central Missouri 6, Northwest 4)
- The Bearcat scored four runs on nine hits. Northwest had one run in the first and three in the third.
- The Jennies scored one run in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth. UCM had six runs on nine hits with an error.
- Rebecca Maher went 3-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases and a run scored. She also drew a walk.
- Chantel Adams was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.
- Alexis Kelsey was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. She had a walk, a double and also was hit by a pitch.
- Madison Jones went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
- Tori Blythe was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.
- Kendle Schieber went 1-for-2 with a walk at the plate. She started in the circle, going 4.2 innings with a strikeout.
- Rachel Smith pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. She had one strikeout and walked one UCM batter.
- Jessica Rawie walked three times and was also hit by a pitch. She scored a run for Northwest in the third.

Game One Key Northwest Innings
- Blythe led off the first with a single but was caught stealing second base. Moses reached on an error by the Jennies' third baseman and went to second on the throw. Maher grounded out to second, moving Moses to third. Kelsey drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Adams hit the first pitch she saw safely into center, driving in Moses to make it 1-0 Northwest.

- Maher doubled to lead off the third and scored on a Kelsey double to right center. Adams drew a walk and Rawie loaded the bases after getting hit by a pitch. Jones came up with a single to center, driving in Kelsey. Schieber flew out and Kiana Baderdeen reached on a fielder's choice as Adams was forced out at home. With two down and the bases still loaded, Blythe drew a walk on four-straight pitches to drive in Rawie to make it 4-1 Northwest.
 
Game Two Key Northwest Statistics (Central Missouri 7, Northwest 6)
- The Bearcats scored six runs on seven hits. Northwest got two runs in the second, one in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
- Central Missouri scored single runs in the first and seventh innings but did its damage in the fifth, plating five. The Jennies had six hits and committed one error.
- Sarah Baldwin started and went 4.1 innings for the no decision. She struck out one.
- Smith pitched 2.0 innings, allowing one run. She had four strikeouts and two walks.
- Kelsey scored three runs for Northwest, drawing two walks while knocking her seventh homerun of the year in the third inning.
- Rawie went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs, an RBI, a double and a walk.
- Adams was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
- Maher went 1-for-4 with a walk.
- Schieber, who started in left for the second game, was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
- Baderdeen drew a pair of walks on the day and had an RBI.
- Jones and Blythe each drew walks. Blythe stole her 11th base of the year.

Game Two Key Northwest Innings
- Northwest plated two in the second. Schieber came through with a two-out single to left to score Rawie and Kelsey. Kelsey led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch and Rawie doubled a batter later.

- With two outs in the third, Kelsey hit a homerun to put the Bearcats up, 3-0.

- With one out, Maher singled to center. Kelsey walked to put two on. Adams doubled to right to score Maher and Kelsey moved up to third. Rawie came up next and hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Kelsey, making it 5-1 Northwest.

- In the top of the seventh, the Bearcats rallied to tie the game up, 6-6. Kelsey walked and Adams hit an infield single to put runners on first and second. Rawie walked to load the bases with no outs. Jones hit into a fielder's choice to third but Kelsey was forced out at home. Abigail Gilson was called on to pinch hit but grounded into a fielder's choice to short as Adams was forced out at home. Freshman Baderdeen then showed great patience and drew a game-tying walk to score Rawie.

- Northwest will host Rockhurst on Tuesday, March 15, in non-conference doubleheader action starting at 3 p.m.
