Story Headlines- The Northwest Missouri State softball team split a pair of non-conference matchups Saturday evening in Rochester, Minn.
- The games wrapped up the NSIC/MIAA Crossover, hosted by Winona State University in the RCTC Dome on the campus of Rochester Community and Technical College.
- The Bearcats used a six-run third inning to top Upper Iowa in the first game of the day, 7-5.
- No. 10 Winona State held Northwest in check in the nightcap, winning 6-0.
- The Bearcats are now 6-2 on the season. The Peacocks fell to 3-5 overall with the Warriors improving to 5-1.

Game One Key Statistics (Northwest beat Upper Iowa, 7-5)- Northwest out hit the Peacocks, 12-10.

Rachel Smith (3-0) earned the win after giving up three earned runs over 4.2 innings of work. The freshman struck out four batters and walked none.

Sarah Baldwin recorded her second career save after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings. The senior gave up just one hit while striking out two Peacocks.

Madison Jones drove in four runs with a grand slam in the third inning, finishing 1-for-4.

Kiana Baderdeen scored two runs on a pair of singles while stealing her third base of the year.

Baylee Scarbrough connected with her first home run of the season, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate.

Jessica Rawie turned in a 2-for-4 effort at the plate, scoring one run and driving in another.

Chantel Adams drove in a run with a sixth inning single after scoring a run in the third.
Game One Key Innings- After the Peacocks scored two runs in the first and another in the second, Northwest batted around in the third to take a 6-3 lead. Baderdeen and
Alexis Kelsey opened the inning with consecutive singles before Adams was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Rawie sent a single down the right field line, driving in Baderdeen before Jones sent a 1-0 pitch over the fence in right center. Following a pitching change, Scarbrough crushed a home run to center on the very next pitch.
- After scoring single runs in the fourth and fifth, Upper Iowa looked poised to strike again in the sixth with a runner on second and one out. The Bearcats worked out of the jam by retiring a pair of baserunners at the plate.
Kendle Schieber picked up an assist from left field before Kelsey mowed down a runner at the plate during the next at bat.
- Baderdeen led off the bottom of the sixth with a single up the middle and moved to second with a stolen base. Adams drove her home with a single through the right side two batters later, putting the Bearcats in front, 7-5.
- Baldwin retired the side in order in the seventh to secure the victory.

Game Two Key Statistics (Northwest lost to #10 Winona State, 6-0)- Northwest managed six hits, but only advanced past second base once.

Kendle Schieber (2-2) took the loss after giving up four earned runs across four innings. The senior gave up eight hits while striking out a pair of Warrior batters. At the plate, Schieber connected with her first extra base hit of the season, a double down the left field line.

Sarah Baldwin came out of the bullpen to pitch two scoreless frames. The Chillicothe, Mo. native surrendered just one hit and recorded two strikeouts.

Alexis Kelsey finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. The freshman has hit safely in all eight games this season.

Game Two Key Innings- Kelsey and Adams had back-to-back singles in the top of the first, but the two out rally was cut short when
Jessica Rawie sent a ground ball to short.
- Schieber worked out of a jam in the second after Lani Van Zyl tripled with one out. The pitcher forced a pop up and a ground ball to first, ending the inning.
- The Warriors finally broke through with a pair of unearned runs in the third before piling on four more runs in the fourth.
- Baldwin faced the minimum in the fifth inning, striking out the first batter she faced before inducing two ground outs.

Up Next- The Bearcats will head south to play in the Teri Mathis-Zenner Memorial Tournament in Joplin, Mo. next weekend. Northwest is scheduled to play Rockhurst and Drury on Saturday, Feb. 27 before contests with McKendree and Sioux Falls on Sunday, Feb. 28.
