Story Headlines- The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday in Canton, Ohio, to move to 4-0 on the season.
- The Bearcats beat Edinboro, 3-1, in the opener and came back to defeat Urbana in the afternoon session, 4-1.
- Freshman
Maddy Bruder was named the Hall of Fame City Challenge Tournament's most valuable player in her first collegiate action for the Bearcats. The freshman from Firth, Neb., tallied 47 kills (3.62 k/s) and hit .302 over the Bearcats' 13 sets. She also added 32 digs, two service aces and two blocks.
- Sophomore
Alexis Williams was also named to the all-tournament team after tallying a team-high 12 blocks. She finished the weekend with 26 kills and four digs while hitting .232 for the weekend.
- For the first time since 2000, Northwest begins the season at 4-0. The 2000 team went on the finish 17-15 overall.
Match One Key Statistics (Northwest def. Edinboro, 3-1; 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23)
- Bruder put together another solid offensive performance, leading the Bearcats with 14 kills. She also added four digs and a block assist.

Miranda Foster and
Jackie Becker each tallied 12 kills for Northwest. Becker hit .381 fo rthe match with a pair of block assists while Foster had nine digs and an assist.

Aarika Wittenburg had a match-high 28 digs with four assists and a service ace.

Shelby Duren added nine kills to go along with her 14 digs and two blocks.

Sarah Dannettell had 46 assists, seven digs and four kills against Edinboro.
- As a team, Northwest hit .177 on the day with the best set coming n the second where the Bearcats tallied 17 kills and hit .256 as a team.
- Edinboro fell to 3-1 on the year with the loss. The Fighting Scots had just a .068 attack percentage in the fourth set, committing nine errors.
Match One Key Sequence- Down, 23-22, in the fourth set, Northwest rallied to secure the victory with three straight points. Bruder got her 14th kill of the match on an assist from Dannettell to tie the match, 23-23. After an attack error from Edinboro, Foster stepped up on match point with a clinching kill off an assist from Wittenburg to move the Bearcats to 3-0 on the year.
Match Two Key Statistics (Northwest def. Urbana, 3-0; 25-21, 25-18, 25-19)
- Foster tallied a team-high 11 kills to go along with four digs and a block.
- Bruder had 10 kills and hit .381 for the match. She also had a team-best 13 digs, two service aces, two assists and a block.
- Duren had 10 digs for the Bearcats with six kills and four blocks.
- Becker also had six kills to go along with four blocks.
- Dannettell had 16 assists and added eight digs.
- Northwest hit .219 as a team with a match best .379 second set attack percentage. Urbana was held to a .057 team attack percentage and was held to a -.027 percent in the third set.
- The loss drops Urbana to 1-3 on the season.
Match Two Key Sequence- The Bearcats set the tone early by winning the opening set to take an early lead. But it took a strong finish by Northwest to make sure the advantage was secured. Tied 18-18, Urbana and the Bearcats traded points back and forth over the next six points to end up tied, 21-21. Duren gave Northwest the lead on a kill from a Dannettell assist. Foster followed it up with a pair of kills of her own on a feed from Wittenburg and Dannettell on back-to-back plays to give the Bearcats a set point. Urbana was forced into an attack error, completing Northwest's four-point swing.
Up Next- Northwest heads to Sioux Falls, S.D., for a two-day, four-match weekend starting on Friday, Sept. 11. The Bearcats will face NSIC members Minnesota-Crookston and Augustana on Friday, followed by Saturday matchups against Minnesota State-Moorhead and Northern State.
