Caenepeel strikes out 12 in series opener

- The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team picked up a 4-2 win over MIAA member Fort Hays State on Friday afternoon at Bearcat Field in Maryville, Mo.
- Northwest moves to 10-11 overall and 7-6 in MIAA play with the win. Fort Hays drops to 3-15 overall and 3-10 in MIAA play.
- Anthony Caenepeel pitched 8.0 innings, allowing just two runs on three hits with 12 strikeouts. He walked four batters.
- Right fielder Austin Wulff was 2-for-3 with four RBI, including a three-run homer in the sixth.

Key Northwest Innings
- Down 1-0 in the fourth, Fort led off with an infield single that he legged out but was caught stealing on a strikeout-throw out in the next at bat. Derek Meyer drew a two out walk bringing up Wulff who laced a ball down the line, clearing the third base bag to stay fair and went all the way to the wall. Meyer scored easily from first and Wulff ended up on second with a double.

- With the score tied 1-1 in the sixth, Fort drew a walk and moved to third on a Meyer single one batter later. After Meyer advanced on a wild pitch, Wulff again came up big, lifting his fourth home run of the season deep over the left field fence to put Northwest up 4-1.
